Accuracy
We report what our sources say. Figures, names, dates and quotes are checked against the source before publication. Where a figure is our own calculation, we say how we worked it out.
Sources
Stories are built from primary sources: official statistics, central bank and Treasury releases, regulators, court records, and company announcements. We link every source at the end of each story, primary sources first. We do not rely on another news organisation as our only source.
Originality
We write every story in our own words and structure. We do not republish or rewrite other publications’ articles. Short quotations are attributed and come from primary sources.
Fairness
When a story criticises a person or organisation, we give their side where it is on the record, in a statement, court papers or a report. Allegations are reported as allegations, and we do not run stories that rest on unproven allegations against named people.
Independence
Our coverage is not for sale. Advertisers, sponsors and the owner’s other businesses have no influence over what we cover or what we say. See Conflicts of interest.
Advertising and sponsored content
Advertisements and paid partner content are labelled, kept apart from the news and never presented as our reporting. Our partner content policy sets out the rules.
Not financial advice
We report news and explain its effects. Nothing on Rand Desk is personal financial, investment, tax or legal advice. Speak to a registered adviser before making financial decisions.
AI
We use AI tools to help find, research and draft stories. How we work explains the process and its limits.
